The Practical Lab

We figure out what works.

We take everyday problems, test fixes until one actually works, and turn it into a free tool you can use in a minute.

How an experiment runs

Our process for taking an everyday problem from a question to a tool that actually works.

  1. Question

Start with a real problem that can be stated in a sentence or two.

  2. Investigate

Read, ask people who know, try the obvious fixes. Some of them fail, and that goes in the video too.

  3. Design

Sketch the smallest tool or guide that would actually answer the question.

  4. Test

Use it on real situations and compare it to what happens.

  5. Revise

Fix what the test exposed. Cut whatever nobody needed.

  6. Re-test

Run it again. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until it holds up.

  7. Share

Publish the tool here, with the video and the notes on what changed.

  8. Ask you

You tell us where it breaks and what problem to take on next.

Your problem could be the next experiment

The best tools here started as someone's annoying, specific problem. Tell us what you keep getting stuck on, and we'll investigate it on camera and build what works.

A message like thisI host Sunday dinner every week and I always forget to take the roast out of the freezer in time. Is there a way to know exactly when to start?
The Practical LabThat's a good one. Logging it as Experiment No. 005. Thaw Clock is on the bench.

Example request. If you say it's okay, we may show a screenshot of your message at the start of a video, with your name and profile photo hidden.
